“What we play is life”, said legendary Louis Armstrong, speaking of jazz music. We at Jazz FM cannot help but agree with him. We’re constantly listening, playing, and literally almost breathing jazz. For the past several years, Jazz FM radio has been increasingly active on the jazz stage, not only supporting, recording, and distributing the art of Bulgarian and international jazz performers, but also organizing a series of events in support of this timeless music genre.

2024 will be the year of jazz, and the radio station has prepared a series of activities to justify this statement. The year will begin with the opening of a new concert stage around Dimitar Simeonov’s piano in the Triangular Tower of Serdika at the Regional History Museum. The Jazz Film Fest at the Odeon cinema is next, held jointly with the Bulgarian National Film Archive. This year's programme includes archive films, discussions, and musical video testimonies. Between March and May, the radio’s programme will cover significant musical events like the 125th anniversary since the birth of Pancho Vladigerov jointly with the “Pancho Vladigerov” Museum in Shumen, the “Pancho Vladigerov” house museum in Sofia, the “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” National School of Music and Stage Art in Burgas, and the “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” National Academy of Music in Sofia, as well as other key institutions.

The summer will begin in Stara Zagora, with the third edition of “Jazz Across the Country.” In 2024, the radio's festival that discovers and introduces renowned jazz musicians in the places where they create their work, will head to the central part of the country after Varna and Burgas in the past two years.

The radio’s ambitious programme will continue with the participation of Jazz FM and its radio programme director and host Svetoslav Nikolov as a jury at the Bucharest International JAZZ Competition and attendance of the gala concert in Rousse. In the end of July, the radio will actively join in the organisation and the programme of “Jazz Velingrad”, while in early August it will be part of the iconic Bansko Jazz Festival by participating in the Bansko Jazz Academy in a joint project with the Youth Orchestra of the Thessaloniki Concert Hall as a guest at a festival in Thessaloniki.

In the end of September, all jazz fans will have the chance to attend the “Children of Jazz” festival in Shumen absolutely for free. The festival is based Jazz FM’s idea and is organised jointly with the radio.

The radio's 2024 plans also include a new edition of the “Jazz is Love” original music show. This is the first show that focuses on the story of jazz and demonstrates its beneficial impact on humankind and the society. The show has been created based on an idea by educator Daniela Stankova, founder and director of the D Stars Music School and the School of Musical Theatre, and journalist Svetoslav Nikolov. The musical show presents young talents backed by renowned musicians and theatre artists.

Jazz builds us up as individuals and enables us to change the world, therefore we cannot wait to welcome the new year with an abundance of positive energy and, naturally, quality music.
